Guess what... another Quake 4 preview!
Sat, 28 May 2005 12:07:39 -0400

by Wester
Yup you guessed it, yet another preview of Quake IV has arised onto the web, this time Worthplaying have thrown together a quick preview of it, here's a blurb:
"A lot of attention?s been paid to Quake IV's singleplayer campaign, and it shows. There's a lot of really intense action, with plenty happening in the background and lots of smaller side quests to find and accomplish. Kane can commandeer vehicles, climb into suits of power armor, and wield an arsenal of classic Quake weapons like the nailgun, machine gun, shotgun, railgun, and rocket launcher. Every weapon in Quake IV can also be modded for greater carnage; for example, you can modify the railgun so its slugs bounce off walls, or adjust the rocket launcher to fire guided missiles."

Gaming Horizon's Quake 4 preview
Mon, 23 May 2005 10:40:21 -0400

by Wester
Yet another sneak peek of Quake IV has aroused onto the net, this time Gaming's Horizon have decided to share their impressions of Quake 4 in their preview article. Here's a quick slice from it:
"Graphically, Quake 4 has amazing visuals with wonderful particle effects. The first mission showed our player battle through a base as enemies popped up from all over the place. The enemies we could see were impressively modeled as were your other character models. The dark depths of the base certainly gave a bone chilling feel of uncertainty and fear."

Make sure to check out the whole page for further details, as always.

Gamecloud E3 2005 Quake 4 impressions
Sat, 21 May 2005 11:25:41 -0400

by Wester
Gamecloud has taken a look at the Quake IV demo from E3 2005 and have posted up their impressons of it.
"The demo was a quick one but it looks like id and Raven are on the right track with Quake IV and we hope that a lite 2005 release for the PC isn't out of the question (the game will also be released for the upcoming Xbox 360 console). If you are a fan of Quake II you should be looking forward to this game as well. We are also looking forward to Splash Damage?s collaboration with id that was revealed at E3: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, a multiplayer tactical shooter in the Quake II/IV universe. While there was no live gameplay demo of this game at E3, we hope that both this game and Quake IV will make appearances at Quakecon this August."

New IGN Quake 4 preview / Todd Hollenshead interview
Wed, 18 May 2005 14:56:50 -0400

by Wester
They just keep tumbling down the pipe... at last, the E3 we've been waiting for is here! :)

Anyway, IGN have coherently tied together yet another interview regarding Quake IV, its story, the engine, multiplayer, gameplay, and what not with Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software.
"Do you think we'll see a Quake 4 test for the multiplayer before the game comes out?

Todd Hollenshead: That's a good question. I think what we'll want to do is test the networking, because we've pretty much redone all the networking and we like to get the community to test that and make sure that it's going to be solid before the game is done. We'll have to see as we get closer to completion of both the single-player and the multiplayer elements of the game as to how that's going to work out.

When you say "test," it kind of makes me think of Quake Test and QIII Test. In both those situations, it was a very early look at what the multiplayer was like. Quake III Test, I believe, came out in February, and the game came out in December, so that's nearly ten month in between. I think that one of the things that we learned from that is that we like to have all of the elements of the multiplayer done and not use it as much as a gameplay testing, but to really test the technology, so you would see a much more polished version of it if I could draw it up and have it be the way I wanted it to be."

Secondly, IGN have up their official preview of Quake IV itself.
"Quake 4 actually begins with your squad, the elite Rhino Squad, falling to the planet in landing pods. After smacking to the ground and losing consciousness for a little while, Kane wakes up to find himself in the middle of a battlefield. There's a sense of the size of the planet and gunfire can be heard in the distance. Kane grabs a weapon, talks to a few people in the area, and heads off in search of his team. Thus the experience begins. From then on, it's all about you and your squad."

Make sure to give the entire preview a read as it's a superb one.

New IGN Tim Willits Quake 4 interview
Wed, 18 May 2005 11:00:55 -0400

by Wester
PC.IGN sat down with Tim Willits of id Software for a quick interview regarding Quake IV (of course!), ranging from the story to AI, etc, and here's a quick slice from it:
"IGN: How will the enemy AI in Quake IV be different and/or improved upon than Doom III?

Tim: First, the AI is different. It's a different system than the Doom III AI. You use a buddy system that's built from the Raven team, which is improved and enhanced over Soldier of Fortune and Elite Force. We're leveraging those experiences in Quake IV with all sorts of stuff. Your AI will run for cover and call for support. They'll do some rushing, while another one guy hold back. The AI doesn't like it when you shoot you. (Laughs) With the Strogg, they use cover nodes, zones of fire, strategic snipe points, and they are fully aware of the environment."
